Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day, some of the Trail Nerds headed out for a run in the woods. Nice pace, nice conversation. We ran til we couldn't see anymore and since we were celebrating Earth Day, we didn't pack lights as to avoid light pollution.

As an extra treat, we were able to see a few fireflies! I think I even ate a few...

Rocky Hill Ranch

The first road-trip for the Tejas Trail Nerds was full of fun and good times, but unfortunately not a lot of trails...

Rocky Hill Ranch was canceled shortly after the start secondary to a dangerous storm cell that moved through the area. Smithville had been the recipient of about 12 inches of rain with a high amount of lightening strikes and even a few tornadoes.

An email from Joe Prusaitis explained that the roads had been washes away and he was still unable to get his equipment out from the trail. He has dubbed Rocky Hill with a new name... Hell's Hills.

This is the road leading to the trail head...washed away!

A rescheduled run has been set for June 6, 2009. Check the Tejas Trails website for details.

Doesn't he look happy!!?

Camp Awesome!
Regardless of how much we were able to run or not able to run, CAMP AWESOME was a great experience and set the precedence for many future adventures!

Good Times!

Good Eats!

Good Glutes? Good Grief!

Running Reset

I just love how a good hard run can totally reset me from the inside out. It's such a blessing to have this outlet that helps me to regroup, refocus, and rejuvenate.

I've been trying to get between 25 - 30 miles in each week, though my average is about 28 right now. I'd like to have my base at 30 so that I can feel like I am ready for a bigger run without much notice. I set a schedule to run 5 days, but usually miss one for one reason or another.

I have been working the core, not as hard as I had planned, but I am still seeing some nice results. I feel stronger on my runs and I think that my pace is getting a bit faster as well.

I am planning to run Rocky Hill next weekend, then Hog's Hunt. After that, I am going into building mode until the fall. I hope to run the Huntsville Half, a distance I've yet to try. I'd like to see if I can carry a quicker pace for that.

As Spring begins, I find I am yearning to get out more often. I am setting a more definite schedule that hopefully will allow me to get the training in without much strife to the family life.

Next update will probably be after Rocky Hill!
