Still Hot

I ran a 2.5 miler on Weds. nite. Pace was 9:47/mile. It was really, really, did I say really humid?!

Makes for a not so pleasant experience. The reward was that my hip seems to be able to take the running and I am not feeling it so much afterward.

I also have been doing the pilates DVD. It feels good, especially after the running.

I haven't had it in me to get up at 5:00 to get to the spinning classes. I think I'm coming down with the kid's cold. Yuck.

Happy running!

It's Hot!

I got in a short, very short run today. It was a brutal 95 degrees with a strong wind blowing and full sun shining down.

I only ran two miles today. It was just too hot. I haven't found a good place to run here at the beach. The shoulder on the road is much too narrow and the sand isn't conducive to running. It was much to sloped and very soft. (Thanks Rick for the head's up on that one!)

Having fun with family and trying to not completely blow my eating. Although the bowl of Reese's Peanut Butter cups is not helping!!

I'm Running in the Rain, just running in the rain...

Took a few minutes out of the day to time a run between the thunderstorms we are having today.

4 miles

40:17 Total time

10:02/mile

Hip is feeling pretty good.

Off tomorrow as we head to the beach. I am looking forward to running on the sand this week.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there!!

Oh, and I changed the blog late last night trying to figure out where my site meter went to. It stopped registering about 2 weeks ago and I have know idea why...

Running for Carson

Sometimes it just feels great to get out and run. Today it felt better to do it for a reason. A good reason. A sweet 3.5 year old little boy named Carson reason.

How his parents have stayed so strong, I will never know. I am sure that there faith is carrying them right now, but they are truly remarkable folks.

Mrs. Keyes gave a wonderful speech and I don't think there were any dry eyes by the time she was finished. I know mine weren't.

The wonderful news was that his tumors have disappeared. Praise God! He still has to finish his treatments, so continue to keep him in your prayers.

I ran pretty well today
Total Mileage 3.1
Total Time 28:26
Mile 1: 9:02
Mile 2: 9:03
Mile 3.1: 9:32

avg pace 9:04/mile

Avg HR: 194
Max HR: 212

Hip feels good!

I also got to feel like a girly girl in my new running skirt. I found it on sale for 10.00!!!

I had to!

I just couldn't help myself. Between the two huge storms we had this afternoon and evening, I took ol' Hannah and went for a run.

I promised myself that I would only go out a mile and then head back in. I just wanted to try out the hip which has been feeling great the last week.

Do you know how hard it is to stick to a promise like that when you are as OCD and insane as me? Impossible I tell you. Impossible.

But I did it, well almost. It's Garmin's fault really. The dang thing takes forever to load the satellites and then asks me ridiculous questions like, "are you inside" and "have you moved hundreds of miles since your last run?" I want to scream at it saying, "Look buddy, I know it's been awhile, but seriously, has enough time elapsed for me to sell my home pack up my life and move hundreds of miles away?! Don't think I haven't thought about it, especially with this humidity, but NO I haven't moved, and NO I am not indoors!" (see, I told you... insane!)

Anyhoo, Garmin started working after about 7/10 ths of a mile out. So I ran a mile according to Garm and then headed back in.

I kept the pace at about 11:00/mile, (another butt kicker, I want to go fast!!) But Hannah was happy and so was I. Total mileage was 2.5 miles.

The trail is getting a bit overgrown. I am praying some nice person with a riding mower heads that way soon or else, I might have to run on the pavement. uuuggghhh.

So, I had to. And I know you understand.

Week Summary

I thought you might like a peek at Boo and I "blogging". At least this is what it looked like for about 15 seconds before he climbed on top of my lap top!!

Well, the PT visit didn't quite work out. Turns out, the insurance company doesn't cover the PT and the PT could not give me a price on an evaluation. So, no eval this week. I may travel to Kingwood next week to have a friend of ours eval me at my husband's clinic.

The hip is still sore, even after 10 days of no running, but it is feeling less painful. I have made an observation this week. When I am not running, I eat terribly! I eat tons of garbage food and I feel even worse. Last night, I even broke the red meat fast and had pizza with tons of meat on it. I did pay for that today...

My daughter, Lem, decided to run with me this morning during the RTW 7 Hills vs TWRC challenge. What fun it was!

In spite of the searing heat and almost unbearable humidity, my sweet little girl hung in there for the first mile and then walk/ran the last two. She had never run over 2 miles before, so this was a big jump for her. Silly mom didn't bring any water on the run. I left it at the finish line. She was quite parched and had a difficult time focusing on other things rather than her physical state. I was a bit concerned that she might not be able to even walk the rest of the way in, but she hung in there and even ran across the finish line!

I am so proud of her for persevering. She is awesome! And the folks at these runs are so amazing. They cheered her on, congratulated her, and took time out to talk with her making her feel very welcome. What a nice group of people! Thank you to you all for the encouragement and friendship that you consistently demonstrate!

The challenge was won by TWRC this time. I look forward to the next challenge in the fall in 7 Hills territory. Those hills might just kill us flatlanders!!

More good news, because of the walking I did, I didn't tax the hip too much, so I have no more pain than I started with. Funny, somehow this is a positive!!!

I want to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to Laura on her first 5K! Way to go girl! Come on down to Houston we'll get a nice run in sometime!

Next Saturday morning, a benefit race will be held at the RTW course, though it is not being put on by them. A young boy, 3 years old, who has cancer will be the motivator for us to get out and run again in this humidity! Come out if you can, and even if you can't. I know that the family can use the help.

The saga continues

As much as I'd like to go against the advice of two doctors and prove them wrong (yes, I am a bit stubborn), I've had to comply with their suggestion of not running.

I have been able to hit several cycling classes, but the hip is quite painful and making it difficult to envision running right now. I did make an appointment at a local PT clinic for tomorrow. I am really praying we can see an end to this situation. I want to run.

6/2/07

The ortho doc took another x-ray and found that the last disc is out of place which could be causing some referred pain, but she wasn't too sure. She also wondered about a stress fracture in my pelvis, but again, not sure. She told me to lay off the running until the pain subsides and gave me a sample of a new pain reliever that would be stronger than the Advil I have been taking. She also wants me to see a PT to see if he/she could figure it out.
I took the medicine last night and it did nothing. I got up and took the Advil and if felt 100% better. Go figure.

So back to the drawing board. I am sticking with the cycling classes and running on alternate days. I am adding in strengthening, especially of the Adductors and Abductors, and I will continue with the stretching. I also will bump up the core strengthening.

This morning I did the 75 min. spin class followed with the weight training. It was a great work-out! The hip feels fine now.

Funny thing about my HR today. I decided to take the last 5 races I've done and using my Max HR, averaged them to find a more precise Max HR for myself. 179 is way too low. It turns out that the last five races averaged out to 202. So I plugged that in as my Max HR and now my percentages look much better.

I use my Polar HR monitor for Spin class because the Garmin isn't really necessary. Today, my AVERAGE HR registered at 228!! What the heck?? I am totally confused now. I didn't feel bad at all during the class. Certainly not like my HR was that high. The highest my HR has ever climbed during running is 211. And running always taxes me more than spinning.

So either my Polar is goofy, or I had a heart attack. Not sure which yet.

Happy running!
