Well I was up past midnight writing a post about my run yesterday and it was lost when the cable/internet went down.
Since I can't remember what I wrote, simply, I ran 4 miles. It was hot. Legs felt good, but I needed to keep it slow because of the humidity. I did slip in a few speed drills.

Run, pick, run, pick, run...
The last two days, the kids and I have been frantically looking for dew berries to pick. Our friends came up with about 7 lbs worth and we are bound and determined to surpass their record. The trouble is, I think they picked The Woodlands clean!!
At least that is what I thought until I went on my run tonight. My quick little run took a bit longer tonight. I ran 3.5 miles and it took about 90 mins!
As I ran along, I kept seeing these little beauties just calling my name! Thankfully, I brought along a few ziplock bags to collect them in. I picked another pound by myself tonight and left plenty for the kids to pick tomorrow.
The weather has been so wonderful this spring. I am trying to ease into the humidity as I know it can only get worse as the temps heat up. My leg is still not 100%, but I am running and I am happy about that. My pace is between 10 and 11 min/miles. Not at all what they should be, but I am not pushing it right now.
I plan to run the RTW this Saturday and for me, the real test will be can I run it without trying to race it? I need to stick to my plan and just run it. I can be last, it won't matter. Just getting out there is the important thing right now.
Have a great weekend, and happy berry picking, I mean running!

Ok... it's official
I'm weird. In fact, dh even called me a tree-hugger on Sunday, which is really funny since it was Earth Day and he accidentally planted a tree!
As a conservative, Catholic, mom of 6, tree-hugging is not something I would think I would have any time to do, but as I get older, I realize more and more the importance of our environment, the importance of balance in all things, including nature.
But even more, with my new-found love of running, I am truly crossing over into uncharted territory, even for me.
It started with the running, then the running on trails. Thanks to Dirt Runner, there's no going back to the old me. I doubt I'll ever hit the mileage that he does, but you never know!
Then this past Lenten season, I made the decision to try something different. I'd give up red meat, pork, sweets, and all drinks except water. I thought it would be very difficult, impossible really, but a funny thing happened on my Lenten journey. I started feeling really good! My allergies were getting better. The amount of medication I was needing was decreasing, and another benefit... I dropped about 10 lbs!
So Easter has come and gone. I had pretty much made up my mind that I wouldn't go back to the meat and pork. I've indulged in sugar again, and I hate how I feel. I've even had a few cups of coffee (decaf) and again, I didn't feel that great after drinking it.
So, I am faced with a decision. Do I go for the vegetarian life-style, possibly even Vegan at some point? I feel compelled to do so, but I know that my family is not game for this. I don't want to force them to feel that they need to change their eating habits, though I think for health reasons, it would be wonderful. The baby tends to eat like me anyway, so he's young enough to follow the way of eating without much difficulty.
The other kids are open to eating some of what I am eating, but they love burgers and they LOVE Bacon! So do I to be honest, but I just don't want to go back to eating that way.
I'm looking for some good cook books, blogs, websites, etc., that give easy, not too far out there recipes that will hold my interest, are yummy, and won't kill my grocery budget because of the need to buy obscure items that I've never heard of, never mind pay through the nose for.
I've found a few cook books that I am requesting from the library. I hope to find a happy balance that won't totally turn off my family or make them consider institutionalizing me. (said as a joke here...)
I suppose the other problem here is that our family is a family full of foodies. We love to eat. We celebrate everything with great food and better company. Many of my family loves to cook. In fact, we even have a few chefs in the fold. How do I still partake in our family traditions without insulting them by not eating foods that they have so beautifully and lovingly prepared?
Many questions, probably most without immediate answers. I suppose just one step at a time, incorporating prayer and patience, and a bit of courage thrown in for good measure.
If any of you have experiences with this, please comment or email me with your ideas and/or suggestions.

2 runs
Things have been hopping around here with TWLC and our push to finish up the school year in our homeschool.
I forgot to post my run on Sunday, a quick 3.5 miles at a bit of a quicker pace, just over 11 min/mile.
I am really not looking for speed at this point, just staying on my feet and avoiding injury.
Tonight, I took another quick run, but for some reason, Mr. Garmin did not register my distance. I have no idea why. I only ran about 20 mins as I had to go pick up Lem at TKD. Also, the dog had five potty stops! I was ready to strangle her! OK, not really, but come on... 5 stops in 20 mins???
I may try to get another run in tomorrow since tonight was so wacky, but I have a full day with school and TWLC students.

4/17/2007
I was able to get another run in today. Ran about 3.5 miles in about 40 mins. Again, I'm not obsessing too much about the time as I am really just trying to relax and enjoy the fact that I am running again!!

Finally, I think
I was able to get a run in today, and despite a small amount of pain, I was very happy with my results.
Not going for speed here, just some time on the dirt.
I hit the dirt trails in the neighborhood, got a bit turned around, aka, LOST, so I backtracked and came back home.
Weight: 127.0
Miles 4.0
Time 50.00 mins
min/mile approx 12.30
I did take 3 walk break in here, but had a total of about 40 mins of solid running.
Again, the min/mile was really getting to me. I had to keep telling myself, don't look at the time, just pick up your feet and enjoy the run! I'll continue this for a bit longer and pray that I am over this injury once and for all!
I did notice that when the pain began, if I took shorter strides especially on the affected leg, the pain stopped and I was able to continue.
I plan to stay on the dirt. I finally got my trail shoes dirty! And don't worry, Rick, I won't wash them!! LOL

Newsboys part 2
What a fantastic show! Why, you might ask yourself, am I blogging about this concert on my running blog? Because I run so often to their music. It has a great message and a nice solid beat that I can run comfortably to.
The shoes worked well. I didn't fall down at all. Of course, the fact that it wasn't very muddy probably had a lot to do with that! So, no dirt on my shoes...
All, in all, we had a wonderful time. The only rain felt was when they sang the "He Reigns" song. Seriously. Then it stopped. We got home, got the kids tucked into bed, and then the skies opened up! Foo was still at the show as he and his uncle had the chance to go backstage and meet the band. I was a tad bit jealous, but very happy for them.
Off to TKD testing today. I do hope to try to get a run in today, but with the testings and M working, it probably won't happen. We'll see.
Have a great day, no matter what you do!!
Best wishes to Barbara and Rick who have races coming up in the very near future!

What do you do...
With a perfectly wonderful pair of Trail Shoes when you haven't been able to run over 10 mins in almost 6 weeks?
You wear them to the NEWSBOYS concert!! That is what you do! It's rainy and muddy, so I should get great use out of them tonight.
I've tried a few runs here and there, and things aren't much better. I am giving it one more try this weekend and if it's the same old thing, I will be making an appointment with the doctor, though, I don't know what he can tell me that I haven't been doing already....
Happy trails to you all! I hope to be straggling behind soon!

Changes
I attempted a run on Thursday evening and still had issues with my Adductor. I was totally frustrated so I made a decision to go ahead and look into a gym membership again.
I ended up signing the dotted line yesterday at a local 24 Hour Fitness. I was offered a pretty good deal, and I will only be paying half of what I was paying at the Y. The nice thing is that this club is directly behind the hills that are calling my name, so if I get this leg healthy again, I'll be running them more regularly.
I did weigh in yesterday at 129, so even without the running, I am still burning calories. I really don't know how. I did make some major changes in my diet, no red meat, no pork, no refined sugar and nothing but water to drink. That probably has a lot to do with it.
I doubt I'll get to the club this weekend with it being Easter and all, but I might try to sneak over there for a quick ride on a bike this afternoon once Mark is home from work.
Have a wonderful Easter everyone!

I couldn't wait any longer
There's a drawback to reading running blogs when you can't run... you miss it even more. It is a form of torture and considering I am still observing Lent, this fits right in with the liturgical season.
Today being Sunday, (not considered a day of Lenten penance), I went ahead and strapped on the Asics and took a slow, easy, jog. I had to swear to myself it would be 10 mins out and 10 mins in or else I couldn't go. I knew I would over do it otherwise.
I only put the numbers here for giggles. I really don't care about them right now. It is more important to me to get back in the groove of running and release my family from my horrible mood.
Weight: 130.0
Conditions: 79 degrees, 65% humidity
Mileage: 2.0
Avg HR 173
Time: 24:58 12:47/mile
Notes: I could feel the weakness in the hip if I wavered from midline at all. I need more strengthening in the stabilizers. The run felt great overall. If it wasn't for my hip, I could have gone forever... or til the rest of me gave out.
Tons of baby squirrels crossing the paths today. They are so tiny and cute.
Big difference in the humidity. It seemed much warmer, so I tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. My white skin does not take kindly to the sun.
