Right foot, left foot, OW!

I haven't run since Saturday. I knew my hips felt a bit tight, so I took Sunday off and yesterday just fell away from me.

I took a quick run (if you could call it that) tonight and after three steps, I knew it was going to be bad! The dog was literally pulling me along! I don't know what happened, but my hips felt so stiff and heavy, I could barely move my legs. I thought I'd try to run through it, but to no avail. After just half a mile, I had to walk. The hip pain was travelling to the shins and it didn't feel good at all.

I ran/walk the rest of my lame mile tonight and it isn't even worth posting the times. Suffice it to say.... sllllllooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww

I guess I overdid it on Saturday. I just hope it gets better soon. I have another 5K Saturday at the Spring Fever 5K.

2/24/07

Bad news: I've been up since 3 am, couldn't sleep thinking about the 5K. I can't figure this out. It's not like I haven't run it before! It's not like I don't run at least 3 miles several times a week. For whatever reason, this seems to be a pattern, I can't sleep before a formal run or race.

Good news: In spite of my not sleeping very well, I was committed to getting my butt to the run anyways!

Bad news: The closer it got to run time, the more it began to rain.

Good news: I still went!

Bad news: There weren't many folks that showed up today. In fact, there were only 15. Guess which place I came in? Yep, 15th!!! Last place. I was a bit miffed at myself, but then I remembered that I am not doing this to be the fastest. I'm not doing this to win prizes or pats on the back or recognition of any kind. I am doing this for the kids! I am doing this for my health.

Good news: As I was running and second guessing why I was there, I realized that most people did NOT come to the run today. Only the dedicated runners who would run no matter what the conditions. Therefore, they probably are much faster than I'll ever be. The fact that I could still see them while I trailed behind meant that I was hanging in there. Then I looked down at the Garmin, marked my 1st mile and realized that I beat my goal of 8:45/mile, hitting 8:37 for the first mile. Personal goals. This is about personal goals.

I ran the rest of the run thinking of my mom. Thinking of Christ. What He suffered for us. What she suffered until her death. As my HR rose and my breath shortened and I felt like giving in to the uncomfortable feelings, I called on them both to give me strength to get through this. Instantly, I felt a surge of energy. A second wind. My 2nd mile was a bit slower than the first at 9:04/mile. Not what I was hoping, but better than the last time I ran this run.

I became very winded in the last mile, having to walk for about a minute to catch my breath. I came in at 9:33 for my last mile. I wonder what it would have been if I hadn't walked!

Overall, I came in at a 9:01 pace! My best time ever. So, yes, I came in Last, but I came in with my best!

two fer one

So, I just realized that I didn't post my workout for yesterday. I must have been distracted with the most amazing Valentine's present that I've ever received!!!

As soon as I receive my degree from MIT, I'm sure I'll be able to figure the thing out. In the meantime, however, I'm having fun checking out all of the stats the Garmin keeps while I run.

Yesterday's workout...

Weight: 136.5 (where'd I pick up these extra pounds? I was fasting!!)

Conditions: 78 degrees (hello Spring!)

Mileage: 3.13 (ran 1.0 with Lem as she wants to run the Kids fun run on March 3rd, then ran another 1.5 to shake out the freakiness from my legs)

Avg HR 168 - better

Time: 35:08 11:13/mile (very slow tonight, my legs where really feeling weird!)

Notes: the last two runs my legs felt very painful, no lasting pain once I stoppped running, they felt like they weighed 400 lbs!

Today's run: I decided to try some hills close to home. It was a beautiful afternoon to do so. I loved it! The best part, I didn't die!

Weight: 136.5

Conditions: 72 degrees nice breeze

Mileage: 2.38 I wasn't going for distance tonight, just wanted to try the hills.

Avg HR 168 - better

Time: 24:23 10:14/mile

Notes: Everything felt great tonight, lungs and legs. Can't ask for much more than that!

I plan to take tomorrow off. I'll bike with Lem while she runs. I'm hoping to make it to RTW on Saturday.

Weight: 134.0

Conditions: 63 degrees

Miles: 2.8 miles

Avg HR: 171

Time: 27:39 9:53/mile

Notes: Lungs felt much better in spite of the allergies today. Legs felt somewhat dead. Could be because of the 3 hours of sleep I indulged in last night...

Has anyone else seen these?

They are so cute and look really comfy! Dirt Runner, I think you should test drive one of these, in particular, the pinky pink version!

Oh, wait, this guy already has...

Sunny Days

Ya just gotta love these beautiful cool mornings with the sun shining on your back. In just a few weeks, I'm sure I'll be avoiding that sun...

Weight: 134.0

Conditions: 53 degrees

Miles: 5.0 recovery run

Avg HR: 181 (still much too high, but I am using the inhalers which could be causing the higher rate)

Time: 52:47; 10:33/mile

Notes: Lungs felt much better today than they have in awhile.

2/16/07

Weight: 134.5

Conditions: 43?? degrees

Miles: 2.5 tempo run; 6 sprints, real acurate... ran quick for two light posts then rested.

Avg HR: 178

Time: 24:16/9;33 mile

Notes: Asthma not too bad tonight, but still "there".

2/13/07

Weight: 134.5

Conditions: 50 degrees, felt colder with the wind a blowin'

Distance: 3.5 miles

Avg HR: 172

Time: 38:11 10:33/mile

Notes: Asthma hit real hard on this run. Felt like I was running 10 miles instead of 3.5. Did not feel like I needed to use the inhaler before the run. I won't make that mistake again.

Early morning

Weight: 133.5

Conditions: 55 degrees, 98% humidity (and did it feel like it!) 5:15 am

Distance: 4.2 miles

Avg HR: 177 really need to get this down more, thinking the inhalers are keeping it higher

Time: 42:06 10:01/mile

I was thinking I might be able to splurge for a Garmin after my Polar seemed to die, but alas a $3.00 battery from Walmart fixed the thing and I'll have to wait til later for the other.

Not today

Woke at 5:00 to the pleasure of a pretty bad asthma attack. I'm not sure what is going on with this once controlled asthma, but I am pretty frustrated by the whole thing.

I spent the morning after trying to overcome the effects of the inhalers and other meds , vacuuming the blinds and windows in the bedroom. Perhaps dust is causing the problem. I haven't been able to clean like I should and I need to get back to business here. I've been sick more often than not since Oct. This is very discouraging and I am wishing I knew what the heck is wrong with me.

Finally

A quick little run with very little stats. My polar has gone postal...

Approx. mileage 2.8

Approx. time 28 mins 10 min/mile

HR - who knows

Weight is up a bit this week - 135 today, but the clothes I just conceded to buy a bit larger than I wanted to are now too big!! If I had only waited two more weeks...

I pledge not to buy anymore until I hit 130. I hate wasting money on clothes I can't wear.

Tomorrow is little Em's birthday so unless I run early in the am, I won't get out again until Sat at RTW. Barbara-do you want to go???

UGGGHH

I don't know why, but life is getting in the way of running right now. There are more important things in life, and right now, I'll take care of them. I hope to get back to my running tonight!

waiting

What is the proper etiquette for finding out how someone has faired on a butt-kicking race like Rocky? Dirt Runner must be home by now, unless he is buried in that shallow grave he described to us that would be out on the course. I know we can't call his house, but I'm dying to hear the details!!!

Anyone know anything???

Weight: 134.0

Conditions: 54 degrees

Distance: 3.7 miles

Avg HR: 183 (still too high, but breathing felt better)

Time: 37:11 10:03/mile

Notes: Dodged a few cars tonight. I think I should get bonus points for that! Also, a few attack dogs on the loose, but thankfully, they steered clear of Hannah and I.
