Barbara, I am ignoring the hip (like an obnoxious 2 year old) I have an appointment an ortho tomorrow.
Congratulations to the Dirt Runner Family. Their sweet little girl arrived today, trail shoes in hand! Pray they all get a good night's sleep tonight.

Ran about 3 miles tonight while waiting to pick up Lem from TKD. It was very humid and the route was unfamiliar to me. I found a few hills that I didn't expect to which is good for the gander.
I ran about 30 mins, cooled down for 10. Ran a bit over 3 miles, but Garmin wasn't cooperating with the distance. I think the canopy of trees caused the problem.
I ran at about a 11:51 pace, but that factors in my 10 min cool down time. I figure my pace was closer to 10:00/mile.
Maybe I'll have more definite information next time, but then again, maybe not...

I hit the Y this morning for a Spinning class. Thinking it was the usual 45 mins, I put forth the effort the way I normally do, leaving nothing in the tank by the time class was over.
But as I finished up my water, something unusual for me until the very end of class, I noticed we were still climbing and there was no sign of the cool down.
Yep, I was in the hour class. Not a big deal if one is planning for the hour, but a major deal once I realized that I had 15 more mins to go with not much left to give.
Surprisingly, I hung in there, banged out the last few climbs and lived to tell about it!
Alternating the cycling and the running seems to be helping the hip out so far. I'll start adding in weights as soon as I know that I won't cause more harm than good.
I've committed to the Texas Independence Relay that will be run March 1-2, 2008. I'll be running with some really awesome people who also happen to blog. I've added their blogs to my sidebar so be sure to check them out sometime!

RTW
I was able to make the Run The Woodlands today, but unfortunately, I did not run David's Dream Run last weekend, so no MoCo Triple for me this time. Maybe in November... that's the one with the really cool PINECONES!
Poor Dirt Runner had to make all of those awards on his own. Next time, I think we should give him a hand or hand out do-it yourself award kits to the winners.
My goals for this run were to #1, not come in injured, #2, keep at a 9:30 pace, #3 no walking, #4 finish.
My results
I am not injured, I came in at a 9:30/mile pace, and I finished. I did walk for about 40 seconds. I think it was a bit more humid today than I am used to.
I had to slow myself down several times. I glanced at the Garmin and I was running at 7:30 - 8:00 pace! At one point it was 7:02!! I've never run that fast, and I wasn't going to start today. Pacing myself is going to be very important if I want to stay injury-free and be able to move past these 5Ks.
I did feel quite a bit of tightness in the piriformis so I did a few good stretches and it seems to have helped. I will definitely need to continue with cross-training and strengthening to stay with the program I hope to have for running.
Have a great weekend! Happy running!

Spinning
The hip pain appeared to move to the back at about 3 am today, so I got up, got ready and headed to the Y for the Spin class.
The hip feels great. Better than it has in 10 weeks. Go figure. I think the hip is/was out of place and perhaps the resistance from the bike realigned it. Or maybe I am just completely nuts and there is no hope of recovery (mentally!)
Plan to spin three times this week and if the hip holds up, add in two runs next week. The week after that, I'll spin 3X and then run 3X. I am probably getting ahead of myself here, but a girl can hope, can't she?!?!

And the doctor wins
I had a nice visit with the doctor on Friday morning about this hip that still seems to be giving me grief.
He took an xray, took the history and is sending me to the ortho, with instructions to not run. He knew I was planning to run the next day at the David Dream Run and told me to NOT run.
I know that he had to tell me that, and I know that he probably expected me to ignore his advice, but at 3 am, I woke up with significant pain in the hip for no apparent reason. I decided that was God's way of telling me that I should forgo the run.
After all, my #1 priority is my family and I won't be much good to them if I really mess up the leg. So, I didn't go to the run. I wasn't happy about the decision, but I know it was the right one.
I am praying that hip is just a big out of whack and a visit to a PT may help fix this.
I do need to start some other training in the meantime. I am going to ry to head back to some spinning classes this week and enjoy that old pasttime.
I've been working on push-ups, plank exercises, and sit ups to get some more overall strengthening in.
Hopefully I'll be back on the dirt/road soon.

Trail Run Update
Upon checking the stats on the Y website, we noticed that Lem's name was still in first place. Since she was in 2nd place, I thought it would be nice to email the folks at the Y and let them know that they had forgotten to put the real 1st place winner's name up.
I received a return email stating that Lem WAS the 1st place winner after all and they would be sending her a new medal!
Thank you YMCA!
Lem is very excited and even more motivated to train more now!

How do you spell fun?
I spell it M U D!
Ran my first Trail Run today and as the announcer said, at some points, it turned from a Trail Run into an Adventure Run! What fun though!
Lem ran the 1mile and came in 2nd for her age group! Way to go, sweetheart! (pictures to come later)
I came in 9th for age and 104 overall. This wasn't about speed for me as I am still feeling the hip pain, but I ran it, I finished it, and I had a good time.
My splits were
mile 1: 9:58
mile 2: 10:51
mile 3+ : 11:20
10:32 avg. pace total run time 32:10
The heart rate was really high, hitting 209 a few times. I really need to figure out my true Max HR. I had to walk twice for about 2 mins each time. Overall, I am pleased with my outcome. Now what to do about the dirt on my poor shoes??

5/4/2007
Weight: 125 (goal weight!!)
Conditions: 72 degrees - 94% humidity yuck!
Mileage: 3.65
Avg HR 178 - a bit high... had to walk twice to get it down from the 195 I was hitting.
Time: 39:26 - 10:48 mile
Notes: The humidity is a force to be reckoned with. I wonder if I'll be able to win that battle. Any tricks?
I also ran on Sunday about 2 miles for a pace of about 9:30/mile. I purposely ran a pretty quick pace, well quicker than I've run in a long time, to see how the old hip would hold up. It didn't feel too good afterwards, but the next day it felt fine. I decided I would continue at the slower pace for now. At least for a few more weeks so as not to reinjure myself.
